Must read

The Deputy Majority Leader in the Senate, Sen. Ajayi Borroffice, has distributed no fewer than 72 pepper grinding machines to women in his senatorial district, with 144 others given cash.

Borroffice, representing Ondo North Senatorial District, distributed the items in Oka Akoko, Akoko South West Local Government area of Ondo State on Sunday.

He said that the gesture was his own of appreciating women for their support to him during the last general elections.

“The essence of this event is to bring dividends of democracy to the people. These are women who have worked for us and we need to assist them.

“They have done well; in spite of opposition, they have remained resolute and did not allow me to be put to shame. We have now decided to give them some cash and pepper grinding machines.

“One person from each of the 72 wards is given one machine while, in another round, two women from each ward, totalling 144 will be given N50,000 each,” he said.

The senator said that the gesture would give the women sense of belonging in the APC government and in the senatorial district.

According to him, a lot of life-changing programmes have been carried out to better the people of the senatorial district.

“We have built hospital in Oka, which is being enjoyed by our people today. We are building another one in Arigidi, and by God’s grace, we will build hospitals in Irua, Supare and Ute. These are aside other things that we will do.

“After the last election, we picked 100 people from each local government area and gave them N20,000, N10,000 and N5,000 respectively.

“Then another set of 68 people are being placed on monthly salaries of N150,000, N100,000, N75,000, N50,000, N45,000 and N30,000 respectively and we started the payment in December 2019,” he said.

“Because of the yearnings from our people in Ondo Central and Ondo South senatorial districts, four women from each local government area in the districts will be given pepper grinding machines too in our next agenda,” he said.

The law maker further promised that no fewer than 240 students of Adekunle Ajasin University, Akungba Akoko would benefit from the scholarship awards to be given later.

He explained that the gesture would also be extended to the people of the north and central senatorial districts of the state.

“Our youths across the state will also receive computers,” he stated.

He assured those who had yet to benefit to be patient, assuring that there were more to come.

In his remarks, an APC stalwart in the state, Chief Olusola Oke, SAN, thanked Boroffice for the gesture, saying that it would be highly impactful to the lives of the beneficiaries.

Oke urged those in elective positions to give back to their constituents for the purpose of human development.

Also speaking, Mr Jimi Odimayo, an APC gubernatorial aspirant in the state, commended the senator for having the spirit of gratitude.

Mr Ife Oyedele, another governorship aspirant of the party in the state in the forthcoming election, appreciated Boroffice for the empowerment programme, saying that it would boost the economic lives of the beneficiaries and take them out of poverty.

“The implication of the empowerment programme is to let the people feel that we care about them in generally and that Boroffice cares about them in particular, and that he understands their plight and wants them to know that he feels what they feel.

“No single individual can solve the problems of the people but we need to empathise with them.

“We need to let them understand that we feel what they are going through, at least, to encourage them and vote for the right people.

“When they vote for the right people, they can be sure that they would give them good governance.

“I am certain that all the setbacks we are currently witnessing in Ondo will soon be a thing of the past,” he stated. (NAN)
