Must read

Listing the effort, unrelenting commitment and untroubled political will of the Kano state governor Dr Abdullahi Umar Ganduje in leading the response against COVID-19 pandemic, the State Technical Coordinator of COVID-19 Task Force in the state, Dr Tijjani Hussaini, acknowledges that the samples collection in the state surpasses the benchmark given by Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC).

At the media briefing of the Task Force held at Africa House, Government House, Kano, Thursday evening, Dr Hussaini discloses that “While NCDC gives 100 as benchmark of sample collection per state. Kano state’s sample collection goes up to hundreds.”

Strengthening as well as stabilizing the position which also leads to drastic drop of the pandemic in the state, governor Ganduje reveals further that, “On 25th of June 154 samples were submitted and there was no infected person, 26th June, 492 samples were submitted and only 4 were positive,

On 27th June, 327 samples were submitted with only 5 positive cases, on 29th June, 449 samples were submitted and only 11 were positive, on 30th June, 350 samples were submitted out of which only 5 were positive and on 1st July, 1428 samples were collected with 41 positive cases.”

Clarifying that, with the trend of samples being collected, tested and the results that came out of them, he encouraged that “We are really winning the war against COVID-19 in Kano state.”

In his remarks the state Coordinator Dr Hussaini disclosed that, “Because of the fact that the size of samples collected in the state outstripped what NCDC recommended, that is 100 per state, while we collect in thousands, and with the 5 Testing Centres we have in the state, we still take some of our samples to Abuja for testing.”
