NUJ Correspondents chapel flag off week in Akwa Ibom

Akwa Ibom state branch of the Correspondents Chapel of the Nigerian Union of Journalists, a union of representative of national and international media organisations in the state has flagged off their week.

The Chairman of the body in the State, Comrade Idongesit Ashameri while flagging off the week-long event said the 2019 press week would create room for correspondents to appraise themselves and see how they would serve the society better through their reportage.

Ashameri said the project tour which was part of the event was an avenue to have direct contact with the people, assess the level of progress of some projects in the state as well as the challenges hindering the completion of some projects inspected.

The chairman who also announced that the launching of the Correspondents’ website would take place at the dinner/award night on Friday, urged members to gather news stories, articles and features that would enrich the blog.

“I urge each an every one of us to work together for the progress of our chapel and for a successful week.

“During the project tour, we will check the state of affairs, how the activities of some of these companies are affecting the common man positively and negatively in the state.

“We also intend to launch our online news bloc on Friday night. Therefore we will, as we go round, ensure we upload whatever we gather during our tour of facilities online to enrich our news bloc, to collectively project Akwa Ibom to the world. I pray that God would grant us success, peace and safety as I formally flag off the 2019 Correspondents week.”

Earlier, the Chairman of the Planning-Comittee, Comrade Etoro-Obong Inyang said the week would commence with visiting of some projects in the state. He also enumerated some of the lined up activities marking the event to include: Correspondents arena, seminars and lectures for members, dinner/award night, novelty match with colleagues in NTA, Picnic and Thanksgiving service at the Redeemed Christian Church of God on Sunday.
