Rectors cup: Nasarawa State polytechnic to promote sports in the State.

The management of Nasarawa State Polytechnic, lafia, has pledged to improve on  more sporting  events in the annual Rector’s Cup Competition.

The Rector of the Polytechnic, Mr. Ali Michael Gabu  said this at the closing ceremony of the 17th edition of the 2019 Rector’s Cup Football Competition.

He said that events such as volley ball and handball will be included in subsequent editions of the competition.

Ali Gabu said that the event was being organised by the institution to ensure the overall development of the students in area of sports. He empehasised that all work without play makes one dall. The institution needs to be lively. The maiden edition will allow the school to have a competitive team that will represent the school and the state In the up coming NIPOGA games preliminaries in Zaria.

The Rector however stressed that he had directed the School  Sports unit to keep records of performances of the students in the competition, as the standard of this year’s edition is very high, stressing that the institution will continue to improve on all editions of the competition.

“there is a need for it to be sustained, and improved other areas that are yet to be touched which includes basketball, handball and the rest should be considered”

He also said that the school will improve on the kitting of the teams in subsequent competitions.

Also speaking, the Head coach of the polytechnic, Mr. Joseph Kpanja said that winners of the competition will be rewarded with cash prizes and trophies noting that the competition has helped in curbing social vices like cultism, and others.
“The competition has helped us to identify new and talented players who will represent the institution both in the preliminary, and the main event of the NIPOGA games scheduled for December in Kwara State’.

The Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on youth and sport Mr Kwante who represented the governor said that the government will do all it can to support the institution in terms of sport.
” I want to assure you that His Excellency the Engr. Abdullahi Sule will not relent in providing the necessary facilities and funds needed for the competition’. He urge the students to be good ambassadors of the state while on national duties.

The ceremony was graced by some important stakeholders in the state which include Mr bamaiyi a former commissioner ministry of youth and sport, all Deans and Heads of Departments, representatives from the emirate council and others.

Highlight of the event were two matches played with school of information technology defeating the school of environment studelies 2 goals to nill to emerge as the third place runners up.

However, six schools participate in the competition. school of Administration and Business Studies(SABS), School of information Technology, (SIT) school of environmental (SE) School of Science (SS) School of Engineering, and School of Consultancy Services.

The final match was played between School of SABS and School of Consultancy with school of Consultancy winning by 1 goal to nill, making them back to back winners of the competition.
