Bayelsa State House of Assembly at the weekend called on Inspector General of Police to stop politicising of the deployment of police Commissioners to and away from the state.

 This was contained in a four-points resolution, during its emergency sitting on Saturday, at the Assembly Complex, urged IGP to disregard the moves by some politicians to disband the state internal security body, “Operation Doo-akpor” because the team has helped curbing crimes in the state, since it formation in 2012.

They also resolved that, Governor Seriake Dickson should intervene as the Chief security of the state to stem the tide of impunity associated with incessant of police commissioners,  which has added to worsening security situation in the state. 

The state legislators also resolved to call on National Assembly representatives to present these security concerns on both floors for deliberations.

Presenting the motion, Hon. Bernard Kenebai, Member representing Sagbama constituency II, during the motion for urgent public importance, lamented the indiscriminate posting of to insecurity in Bayelsa State CPs, which has resulted in the increased spate of crime, cultism, kidnapping and general insecurity.

Kenebai averred that, the deployment of eight Police Commissionerswithin a space of two months cannot bit be abnormal and that such actions connote strong political undertones especially as we approach the next election.

The Speaker, Konbowei Benson, urged the Inspector General of Police to disregard any move to disband the state security body,  “Operation Doo akpor”, because it has helped in curbing rate of crimes in the state, they advised the IGP to be transparent in deploying police bosses into the state. 

He accused politicians in the opposition party of being the brain behind this, whose sole aim is disable a very critical component of the state security architecture in other to execute their evil plans in the forth-coming elections. 

Similarly,  the Bayelsa State Command of the Nigerian Police Force say that they have identified some flash points in the state where criminals used as their hideous.

The Police Public relations officer in the state, DSP Asinim Butswat, in a statement on Saturday, disclosed that the community engagement meeting by the command with youths leaders, and vigilante groups within Yenagoa helped in discovering the flash points. 

He said: “Following reported cases of cultism and armed robbery in Yenagoa metropolis and its attendant consequences on public safety, the Commissioner of Police, Mr Joseph Mukan has embarked on community engagement meeting with youth presidents, community development committee chairmen and vigilante groups to ensure that ever part of the state is safe.”
