Reintroduction of SBMC in Senior Schools key to educational development – Dr. Ladan

Director of FCT Education Board, Dr. Sami Ladan has said that the reintroduction of the School Based Management Committee ( SBMC) in the FCT Secondary Schools in the Six Area Councils is a necessary step towards bringing back communal relationship and education development in the Territory.

Dr. Ladan who spoke at Bwari Zone said that in the course of his visits to Schools , he observed the redundancy of the School Based Management Commitee (SBMC) hence the urgent need and action to resuscitates the SBMC in every senior secondary school for profitable educational development service delivery.

Ladan explained that the SBMC is an essential link between schools and the communities to positively improved and impact school operations through sensitization workshop as the first step towards achieving the schools mandate of providing quality teaching and learning to FCT residents while improving learning outcomes through effective and efficient collaboration and partnership with the community where the various Schools are located.

The Director emphasized that the quality education services is the responsibility of all and should not be left alone with the Government.

According to him, everyone in the community has a vital role to play towards ensuring that the school in their community is not lacking behind both in academic performance of students and infrastructure emphasizing that collaboration with the community should remain productive and continuous to foster unity and support .

Ladan commended the participants for turning enmasse and enjoined them to ensure total lmplementation of the SBMC in their various Schools while hinting that the resource persons at the workshop are seasoned education officers from the Department of Policy Planning,Research & Statistics whose expertise on SBMC has helped in so many ways.

Also speaking in the same vein,the Director, Mobilization and Sensitization Unit ,Mrs Evelyn Ebiai- lsah and Ag. Director, School Services, Hajia Aisha Ladidi both stated that the program is to create awareness for effective SBMC in schools for good management and to give a sense of belonging and participation of community and school in the overall development in schools.

“The SBMC will help greater creativity and peaceful co- existence of all stakeholders while boosting the morale of teachers respectively.”

The participants comprising vice principals, Academics,Artisans,
community leaders and parents
commended the Board for awareness programme and agreed that it is an eye opener to the vital roles SBMC should play in the community and said that they are well equipped for the task ahead and to ensure the SBMC is alive to values to the school system.

The well attended sensitization workshop which involved all the 88 Senior Secondary Schools was carried out in the Six Area Councils for two weeks , the Deputy Director/ Head,PR Unit, Education Secretariat, Kabiru Musa said.
