School For Children With Special Needs Celebrates End Of Term Funfair

The Principal of Bayelsa State School for Children With Special Needs behind Old Commissioner’s Quarters , Opolo-Yenagoa, Ebiere Custom Kuro has appealed to the State Government through the State Univeral Basic Education Board to renovate the ICT Centre, supply sine language books, construct a vocational training centre and provide more buses to make the school more functional.

Ebiere Custom Kuro made the call while presenting her welcome address at the 2023 end of term and Christmas Carol/ Funfair at the School premises.

She also appeal to the State Government to sandfill the school field to address the flooding experience whenever there is a downpour.

The School Principal glorified God for making the celebration possible and thanked SUBEB, EDTF for supporting the management of the school for the milestones recorded over the years, and expressed gratitude to all those that honoured their invitation.

On her part, the Vice Principal, Mrs. Celestina Mbakwe said the school need run a boarding system which she stated is in dire need of more classrooms and hostels accommodation in order to enable parents living in the rural areas to bring their wards for admission.

Earlier the Executive Secretary of Universal Basic Education Board, High Chief Victor Okubonanabo who was represented by the Director Academic Services of the Board, Mr. Walson Poland, speaking as Chairman of the occasion described the programmes of the School as unique particularly the drama presentation by the students, football match played, dancing and other performances orchestrated by the students.

He noted that the ICT and infrastructural development are under his department and promised to present the request of the School to the Executive Secretary for necessary action.

Also Speaking, the Director General Directorate for Education Inspection Policy Service and Special Education in the Ministry of Education, Mrs. Biboye Ogala, represented by Mrs. Ofuruma Bridget Abere said dealing with children is a rewarding experience for mothers and commended the Principal and her management team for running the school efficiently. She pour encomiums on the students for the drama and all the interesting performances while promising that the Ministry of Education will continue to support the management of the School to make it more functional.

In his remarks, a beneficiary of the Bayelsa State Government Special Training Programme, Saka Monidia-firi who is a special educator and was the Master of Ceremony of the celebration said the school received them well when they came for teaching practice.

Monidia-firi who is expecting to joint the teaching staff strength of the school said his input will be to develop programmes that will enable the students live independent life and want the mutual collaboration to continue.

The celebration featured dancing, bible quiz, drama presentation, football match, drinking competition among others.
