Victor Osimhen has declared that the Super Eagles are fully prepared for their opening match against Tanzania at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations.
Nigeria will begin their Group C campaign against the Taifa Stars on Tuesday in Fès, with kick-off scheduled for 6:30 p.m. Nigerian time. The fixture marks Eric Chelle’s first AFCON game in charge of the Super Eagles.
The Super Eagles head into the encounter as strong favourites, having finished as runners-up at the last tournament in Côte d’Ivoire. Tanzania, meanwhile, are making their fourth AFCON appearance and have never progressed beyond the group stage.
Despite the disparity in pedigree, Osimhen has warned against complacency, stressing the need for full focus against the East Africans.
The Galatasaray forward, however, maintained that Nigeria remain among the leading contenders for the title.
“It’s all about going to war. Tuesday is the first one, and we will give everything,” Osimhen told Nigerian journalist Kelechi Anyikude. “We are not underrating anyone in our group, but I think we’re up there with so many favourites in this tournament.”
He added: “We’re going to give our all to make sure that we actualise the dream of winning the AFCON. It’s not going to be easy, we still have a long way to go, but I’m very positive about this squad.”
Osimhen’s comments underline the Super Eagles’ determination to make a strong start as they chase a fourth continental title.
