Davido Leads Star-Studded Opening Ceremony of 2025 AFCON in Morocco

The 2025 Africa Cup of Nations officially got underway on Sunday in Morocco with a dazzling opening ceremony headlined by Nigerian Afrobeats star David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido.

According to a report by The Punch on Monday, December 22, 2025, the spectacle took place at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat ahead of the tournament’s opening match between hosts Morocco and Comoros.

Davido shared the spotlight with global music stars French Montana and RedOne in the ceremony’s headline performance, titled Le Show. The presentation was widely acclaimed as one of the most visually impressive openings in AFCON history, combining music, lighting, choreography, and symbolism in a carefully crafted display aimed at a worldwide audience.

Davido’s appearance underscored his influence as one of Africa’s leading contemporary artists, bringing the energy of Afrobeats to the continent’s biggest football stage. French Montana and RedOne added international flair, creating a seamless blend of African and global entertainment.

The ceremony celebrated Morocco’s rich cultural heritage while highlighting the unifying power of football and music. Elaborate stage designs, striking visual effects, and synchronized performances delivered an immersive experience for fans in the stadium and viewers around the world.

Observers noted that the presence of such high-profile artists reflects Africa’s growing stature in global entertainment and its increasing ability to attract world-class talent for major continental events.

Davido’s performance also reinforced Nigeria’s cultural presence at AFCON, linking the country’s thriving music industry with one of Africa’s premier sporting tournaments. While attention now turns to the football action, the opening ceremony has already left a lasting impression, showcasing the powerful synergy between African culture, music, and sport on the global stage.
