After over a hundred years of drinking water from ponds with animals, the Community and Social Development Projects (CSDP) has drilled a motorised borehole for the provision of portable water to Boboto village in Yorro Local government area of Taraba state.

Chief Sindi Shonvo, village head of Boboto, told newsman on Thursday that lack of portable water source had always been the problem of the community since they settled in the area over a hundred years ago.

He narrated that the people had to travel to hours to the nearest pond to fetch water.

According to him, it became extremely difficult during the dry season when they had to spend agonising hours for the pond to generate water for them to fetch.

“It has been a very difficult experience for us. I am so excited that the Governor Darius Ishaku, in collaboration with the CSDP has listened to our cry and has brought this succour to our people.

“In the past, our women had to go to the pond that is very far away from here to go and fetch water.

“That is the same pond where our animals also drink an during the dry season, some of our children will even stop going to schools sourcing for water.

” They will spend long hours at the pond waiting their turns to fetch and today, all of that is put to rest now.

“With this borehole in our community now, half of our problem is solved and everyone is happy. ” The men, women, children, our animals and those making Burukutu (local beer) for us are all excited and happy’ the village head said.

Some of the people who spoke to Journalists expressed overwhelming joy over the development.

According to thirteen years old Veronica Santi, “now I don’t have to go to school late every day and we will continue going to school even during the dry season, the time we used to stop going to school because of water”.

Similarly, Joseph Shonva, a physically challenged man told Daybreak news that his plight for looking for water to bath and wash clothes had being addressed.

“My physical disabilities and the inconveniences that comes with it have been reduced to a great extent as I don’t have to crawl for hours just to go and take my bath and wash my clothes.

“Water is right at the back of my house and I feel very complete now,’ Shonva said.

Daybreak reports that the entire village was thrown into jubilation as a new borehole was commissioned in the community by CSDP.

Okorocha Fighting With Ill-Gotten Wealth- Irona

…Reiterates Govt. Commitment to Partnering NTA

    By Jennifer Yusuf

Deputy Governor of Imo State, Engr. Gerald Irona says former Governor Rochas Okorocha is fighting the present administration of Chief Emeka Ihedioha with ill-gotten wealth.

The Deputy Governor stated this in Owerri while receiving a delegation of the management team of the Nigerian Television Authority –NTA, Friday afternoon in his office.

“Let me reiterate the commitment of the present administration in Imo State, led by Chief Emeka Ihedioha to partner with the Nigerian Television Authority and all other Federal public institutions in the state. We are all working for the general interest of Nigerians.”

“We have finished politicking and this is time for governance and all hands must be on deck to ensure that Nigeria moves forward. The country is going through a difficult period. You will recall that almost on daily basis, there are media reports of ugly incidents and social vices everywhere.”

“We will encourage you to ensure that you support the government to fight crime in Imo State. Banditry has no boundaries and we must encourage the exposure of criminals, particularly, those that have looted our treasury. They must not be condoned. A criminal is a criminal. Criminals all over the world fight with ill-gotten wealth. It is the responsibility of the media to expose people who, in their opinion, through investigative journalism are corrupt.”

“We met Imo that people had lost confidence in government. We met Imo that was disoriented. There was a disconnect between the citizens and the government. Look at the challenge of flooding in Owerri. People built on canals and water ways and Owerri master plan was distorted. You can see that there are no good roads in Owerri. Someone was in charge of this state for eight years and you can see the depth of infrastructural deficit. He is now using looted funds to fight the present administration for asking questions that every responsible administration must ask. We are barely two months old and I can assure you that Imo State will smile.”

She pledged the commitment of the station towards partnering with the present administration to deliver dividends of democracy to the people.

The nation named Valentine Iro, 31, and Chukwudi Christogunus Igbokwe, 38, as lead suspects including that once an unfortunate casualty saved assets into a ledger or a cash administrations account, the pair purportedly planned with others to further wash the assets.

“Those money exchangers, in turn, used a Nigerian banking application to transfer other funds in naira (₦), the currency of Nigeria, from Nigerian bank accounts they controlled to the Nigerian bank accounts specified by Iro and Igbokwe,” the statement said.

The authorities said this strategy was used to transfer millions of dollars to Nigerian co-conspirators without directly transferring funds overseas.

  • U.S. covers up its own misdeeds by accusing China of cyber theft

    By Zhong Sheng

Some U.S. politicians have really racked their brains to trump up charges against China. Recently, they once again framed China by saying the country hacked U.S. computers and stole U.S. trade secrets, staging a farce with new wording.

The large-scale and organized cyber espionage activities conducted by relevant U.S. departments on foreign governments, enterprises and individuals are not a secret at all, making Uncle Sam the largest empire of hackers – a globally recognized fact.
However, these politicians are disguising the U.S. as a victim of cyber-attacks, trying to cover up its own misdeeds by shifting the blame. How laughable it is!

The “achievements” made by the U.S. in cyber theft have no parallel in the whole world.
Edward Snowden revealed that the notorious PRISM surveillance program of the National Security Agency (NSA) of the U.S. was running 24 hours a day for unauthorized monitoring of emails and social media communication. Even some state leaders and heads of international organizations had long been secretly monitored by U.S. intelligence agencies.

In 2017, WikiLeaks disclosed nearly 9,000 confidential documents, revealing that the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA), with its unparalleled hacking capability, hacked into various smart devices including cellphones, computers, and smart TVs.

According to reports by Western media, 90 percent of the world’s communication was under U.S. surveillance.
What’s worth more attention is that the U.S. military and intelligence agencies are building the world’s largest cyber arsenal that is as deadly as nuclear weapons, triggering a global cyber arms race.
In 2009, the U.S. military established the U.S. Cyber Command, and elevated it to the 10th unified combatant command of the country in 2017.

Julian Assange, founder of Wikileaks, revealed that the U.S. has developed as many as 2,000 types of cyber-weapons, making it the No.1 cyber weapon producer in the world.
In addition, information disclosed by cyber security organizations indicated that the two advanced persistent threats (APTs) groups, Equation and Project Sauron, which are considered to be at Thanos level in the industry, are both supported by NSA behind the scene.

As indicated by a recent annual report on China’s cyber security published by China’s National Computer Network Emergency Response Technical Team (CNCERT), most of the cyber-attacks China received were from the U.S., and the number kept growing.
In 2018, 3,325 IP addresses in the U.S., up 43 percent from 2017, planted Trojans in 3,607 websites on the Chinese mainland.

Cyber theft and hacker attack are just all-too-common practices of the U.S., as substantial evidences suggest.
Who on earth is launching frequent cyber-attacks and stealing secrets around the globe? Who is the first opening the “Pandora’s box” of enhancing cyber warfare capabilities? Facts speak louder than words, and the truth is self-evident.

As it is written in ancient Chinese political and philosophical text Guanzi, “Nothing is more beneficial than stability, and nothing is more detrimental than chaos.” Cyber security concerns the common interests of various countries and needs to be jointly safeguarded by the international community.
China has a consistent and clear stance on cyber security. Chinese President Xi Jinping has stressed on many occasions that both commercial cyber theft and hacking against government networks are crimes that must be punished in accordance with law and relevant international treaties.
As a firm defender of cyber security, China has never engaged in any form of cyber theft or supported anyone in stealing trade secrets.

China is also an active advocate for international cooperation on cyber security. The country has proposed four principles that must be upheld in order to make progress in the transformation of the global Internet governance system, put forward five proposals with an aim of jointly building a community of shared future in cyberspace, and actively carried out international cooperation on cyber security via bilateral and multilateral channels.
In recent years, China has jointly established specialized dialogue mechanisms with the U.S., the UK, and the European Union (EU) to boost cyber security cooperation, and put forward constructive proposals for promoting international cooperation on cyberspace through multilateral mechanisms including the UN and Group of 20 (G20).
The absurd argument of the so-called “cyber theft” cooked up by U.S. politicians to smear China revealed their evil intentions. However, such arguments, no matter how they are reworded or disguised, cannot withstand even a single blow in the face of irrefutable facts and would only serve as a butt of a joke for the international community.

(Zhong Sheng is a pen name often used by People’s Daily to express its views on foreign policy.)
