Zuleika Hassan: Keyan MP with baby dismissed from parliament

Due to domestic emergency, Zuleika Hassan said she had brought her five-month-old baby with her to work and the parliament didn’t have a creche.

According to the house rules, “strangers” are not allowed into the chamber, children included.

Some of her male colleagues described her actions as shameful.

Speaker Christopher Omulele ordered Ms Hassan out of the chamber and said that she could return without the baby.

Some MPs shouted and others started shoving each other.

Ms Hassan called on parliament to create a more “family-friendly atmosphere” if it wanted more women to become MPs.

“I have tried really hard not to come with the baby, but today I had an emergency; what was I supposed to do? If parliament had a nursery or a creche, I would be able to put my baby there,” she said.

Deputy speaker Moses Cheboi said in a statement that there is a facility in parliament for mothers to nurse their babies.

However mothers have to “bring along their nannies to watch over the babies at the facility while they undertake their official duties”.

In 2017, Keyan lawmakers passed a bill compelling employers to construct special rooms where mothers could breastfeed and change their babies.

Ms Hassan’s supporters have condemned her treatment which comes during World Breastfeeding week.

Several female politicians around the world been pictured taking their babies to work.

In 2018 New Zealand Prime Minister Jacinda Arden was the first female world leader to take her baby, three-month-old Neve Te Aroha, to the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

  • 3 Things Breakups Make You Discover About Yourself

3 Things Breakups Make You Discover About Yourself

Breakups are really heartbreaking, it brings gloom. But in those moments of sadness can be moments of self-evaluation and reinvention.

Actually, here are 3 things breakups reveal about you:

    1. You’re stronger than you think

The days immediately after a terrible breakup will feel as gloomy as hell and you just might get all sorts of terrible thoughts and go through the craziest motions but in the end, what is clearest in times like this is the strength and fortitude to move on.

It’s usually not as easy or as quick as you might like, but with time and positive attempts, you can move on from that bad breakup.

    And you really should.

    2. Review your expectations

Some people gel on some deeper level in little or no time, but that is more exception than the norm.

If the relationship ended because you expected too much within a very short space of time, and you realise the relationship never truly settled due to the pressure of those demands, the period after a breakup is usually ideal to ask yourself questions and review those expectations.

    3. You’re not as perfect as you think

When a relationship ends, you realize that maybe things would have been different if you had acted differently.

Having time to replay the sequence of events in detail might show your own role in what became of the relationship.

While you might want to lay fault at the feet of that ex [and rightly so], you might however realize that you were not completely faultless for what the bad end the relationship got.

  • Your unwashed make up brushes contains bacteria

Your unwashed make up brushes contains bacteria

Ok, so be honest: When was the last time you cleaned your make up brushes? If they’re currently caked in makeup and you can’t remember the original colour of the bristles, it’s probably time to make friends with a cleanser.

“Layers of oil from your skin, mixed with makeup pigments and dead skin cells, make brushes a breeding ground for bacteria,” reveals makeup artist, Caroline Barnes, who works with Pixie Lott.

And this isn’t exactly good news for your skin…

What using dirty brushes does to your skin

‘If you are one of those people that does all the right things and yet can’t understand why you have rashes and spots, take a look at the tools you use to apply your products with,’ says Lynne Sanders, cosmetic scientist and founder of Cosmetics a La Carte.

With the daily grime comes consequences like breakouts, congestion and skin irritation. Let alone the brushes limp, clogged bristles that no longer blend evenly. At worst, it can also lead to infections, like folliculitis.

Think your beauty blender is exempt? Hell no. That bouncy sponge can harbour just as much filth (if not more) than a brush and should be cleaned regularly, as well as replaced every three months.

And it’s an even bigger no-no for sharing unclean makeup applicators – it’s the ultimate sin, and virus-spreader, including cold sores and conjunctivitis. It’s the reason pros clean their brushes after every use.

Steps on how to clean your brush

You probably don’t need much more convincing after reading about dirty brushes, but clean makeup brushes will also leave the skin far more radiant and ensure your favourite cosmetics glide on like a dream. Here, makeup pro, Christabel Draffin, reveals her brush cleaning routine in four simple steps.

    1. Dip each brush individually under hot running water, and then into a bowl of gentle shampoo or soap and rub gently with fingers to get a good lather for a few minutes.

    2. Hold brushes under running water, checking until there’s no lather left on it. Hold for a further 2-3 seconds, ensuring they are sparkling clean.

    3. If there is still residue on the brush, I repeat the process. If not, I squeeze the water out of the brush and lay it flat on a towel next to the sink to dry.

    4. After all of the brushes are washed, I lay them in a neat row underneath the radiator (if you stack them on top of each other, they don’t dry properly and smell strange – not good!)

  • 7 Things That Can Ruin Your First Date

7 Things That Can Ruin Your First Date

First dates can give the jitters. It can make one all worried about the impression they will make during the rendezvous.

Well, according to withinnigeria.com, here are 7 things you should take note of, because they can make your first date go wrong.

    1. Arriving late
Don’t show up 20 minutes after the agreed time. If you do, it tells your date that you do not value other people’s time. They probably left a lot of things undone to be there, so value their time. Arrive as early as possible. It gives off good vibes from the get-go.

    2. Being rude to the staff
The worst thing you can do on a first date is to act and speak to people like some spoilt kid from the TV series, “Big Mouth.” Don’t order the restaurant staff around like they are your slave. It makes your date uncomfortable and shows that you do not respect others.

    3. Constantly checking your phone
Hello! What are you doing? Drop that phone at home or in the car. No one wants to be seen as boring, right? Well, that’s how you’ll make your date feel if you keep checking your phone and they assume you are not into them at all. They might leave while you are still seated.

    4. Throwing up
Are you sick? Do you need a doctor? Go to the hospital, not a date. You can just reschedule. It’s fine that way. And please, eat what you are used to. A first date is not the time to try something new, you might feel sick after eating it.

    5 Talking about your ex
Everyone’s got an ex but nobody cares about how you two hooked up or broke up or how he slapped you the night he got drunk. Don’t say a word about them or maybe you should just get back with them instead of coming to date.

    6. Refuse to pay your way
Because it is your first date with them, splitting the bill makes more sense except they insist on paying it all. You don’t want to be seen as a liability, so go for your wallet and wait for them to tell you not to pay or you can just do the whole payment since it’s no one’s job.

    7. Leaving before your date
Only when it is a matter of life and death should you leave your date seated. You are probably busy, but why not wait till they are ready to leave too? So both of you can exit together. That way, your date will know that they might have a chance for another date. It is more ideal to leave together.

  • First ever Roof-based Solar charging system car lunched by Hyundia

Hyundai Motor Company has launched its first-ever car with a solar roof charging system. In an announcement Friday, the business said that the technology would be used on the latest version of its Sonata Hybrid and then introduced to other vehicles over the coming years.

The idea is for the solar roof to support the car’s electric power source, boost fuel efficiency and lower carbon dioxide emissions, Hyundai said. Silicon solar panels have been attached to the roof of the vehicle and can charge while the car is moving.

Hyundai added that 30% to 60% of the car’s battery could be charged using solar technology. With six hours of charge per day, the vehicle could increase travel distances by 1,300 kilometres per year.

In a statement, Heui Won Yang, head of the Hyundai Motor Group’s Body Tech Unit, said that the technology allowed its customers to “actively tackle” issues related to emissions, adding that the business hoped to expand the technology to vehicles with traditional internal combustion engines.

The vehicle is being sold in South Korea and will also be released in the North American market, although there are currently no plans to make it available in Europe.

The idea of attaching solar panels to vehicles is not a new one, and neither is it restricted to land-based modes of transport.

In August 2018, an unmanned, solar-powered aircraft from the European aerospace giant Airbus completed a maiden flight lasting 25 days, 23 hours, and 57 minutes. In 2016, the Solar Impulse 2, a manned aircraft powered by the sun, managed to circumnavigate the globe without using fuel. The trip was completed in 17 separate legs.

  • N9.9bn Fraud: EFCC reveals only N300m remains in Lagos accounts

N9.9bn Fraud: EFCC reveals only N300m remains in Lagos accounts

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, has disclosed that only N300 million remained in the three accounts of which court orders to be freezed on Tuesday operated by the Lagos State Government
Justice Chuka Obiozor of the Federal High Court, in Ikoyi, Lagos, had on Tuesday ordered the freezing of the sum of three accounts belonging to the Lagos State government over alleged N9.9 billion fraud.

The alleged fraud was committed under the administration of immediate past Governor of the State, Akinwunmi Ambode.

The funds are domiciled in First City Monument Bank, FCMB, account number 5617984012; Access Bank account number 0060949275 and Zenith Bank account number 1011691254, respectively.

However, the EFCC disclosed that only about N300 million were now left in the three accounts as N9.6 billion had been allegedly stolen.

In Tuesday’s ruling, Justice Obiozor order EFCC to do the needful following an ex-parte application filed by the anti-crime agency.

The EFCC had prayed the court to freeze the account pending the conclusion of investigation and possible prosecution of Adewale Adesanya, the Permanent Secretary in the Office of the Chief of Staff to former Governor Akinwunmi Ambode.

The applicant, EFCC, in an affidavit deposed to by Kungmi Daniel, an operative of the Commission, stated that there was “a huge inflow of N9,927,714,443.29” from the state accounts into an FCMB bank account opened on September 17, 2018 during the administration of the immediate past governor of the state, Akinwunmi Ambode, and operated by Adesanya.

It was further stated that the schedule of the FCMB account showed how Adesanya and other signatories to the account made fraudulent transfer from the accounts of the Lagos State Government and dissipated the funds housed in the said accounts.

In his submission, counsel to the EFCC, Mohammed Abbas, said “The trend in the account is that the account always witnessed huge inflow from Lagos State Government in the above scheduled accounts managed by the respondent (Adesanya)”.

Abbas, therefore, prayed the court to grant an order to temporarily attach and take over the accounts to enable it conclude its investigations.

“There have been concerted efforts and attempts to dissipate the contents of the accounts listed in the schedule to this application.

“Without freezing the nominated accounts and temporarily forfeiting the money to the Government of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, there is no way the fraud being perpetrated using the scheduled accounts can be stopped,” he further told the court.

Consequently, Justice Obiozor granted the prayers of the counsel to the Commission.

The Judge adjourned further proceedings to September 9, 2019.
