  • Guber judgement: Gov. Sule redirects state account from state finance ministry— Sources

In an alleged desperate move to secure the court of Appeal judgement to reverse the victory of Dr. David Ombugadu at the tribunal, State account is said to have been drained to red.

This is as a result of the allegation that the state governor had last month redirected the state allocation from the federation account from the state ministry of finance to fund a scheme set up to induce the Appeal Court to reverse the tribunal judgement in his favour when constituted.

An impeccable source in the State Ministry of Finance who remain anonymous revealed that the State Governor, Engr. Abdullahi Sule, has redirected last month allocation from the Federation Account to fund a scheme set up to bribe some officials of the Federal Judiciary in the hope of securing a favourable judgement at the Court of Appeal following the upturning of his election by the Tribunal.

The source said the inability of the Governor to convene the state’s Joint Accounts Allocation Committee Meeting was mainly because the funds are no longer there, as they have been funneled to the pockets of some corrupt officials who promised to influence the outcome of the judgement of the Court of Appeal in Sule’s favour.

“I can confirm to you that the coffers of the government have been cleared out. Even before the last allocation from FAAC came, the accounts are in red. substantial amounts from the state’s accounts are being redirected towards the Governor’s legal expenses while the rest are being funneled to some pliant officials in order to bend the rules at the Appeal Court,” the anonymous source stated.

The source expressed deep concern over recent developments regarding the utilization of Nasarawa State funds especially since the Governorship Election Petition Tribunal sacked him from office, stressing that all government functions have been put on hold except for those that will give the Governor visibility in the media.

“This raises serious questions about the propriety of using public funds for personal legal matters, especially in a context as sensitive as an election-related trial.

According to the sources close to the state ministry of finance, “every individual is entitled to a fair defense, we emphasize the importance of transparency and accountability in the use of public resources.

“The people of Nasarawa State have entrusted their funds for the betterment of the state, and any deviation from this purpose undermines the public trust,” the source stated.

The source claimed that even with the advice of the state ministry of Finance, the Governor has insisted that he will use every thing in his authority to remain in office at all cost, not minding the consequences of his action.

“In fact, some of his flippant supporters are already jubilating that one of the judges, whom they expect to be on the panel, has allegedly agreed to work with them having been induced last night.

“They are just awaiting for the unveiling of the full list of judges in order to activate their other plans into action.

“The governor has taken all the state’s resources for this purpose, but the people of Nasarawa State are hopeful that the judges will uphold merit and might turn down his offer in the interest of Justice.

“We urge the judiciary to ensure impartial and just trial process, free from any external influences that could compromise the integrity of the court outcome,” the source said.

The source also alleged that a prominent traditional ruler has been under pressure to activate his Abuja contacts in order to achieve their goal.

“The traditional ruler was overheard saying that the governor is visibly disturbed and unsettled leading to the importation of an Indian talisman or marabout who was accompanied to Keffi by other equally prominent northern chiefs in the guise of attending a sudden public lecture at the University.

Our source further disclosed that part of the plan is to perfect strategies and deploy influence to aid the governor’s success at appeal.

“They were all over the place yesterday night in Abuja desperately trying to conclude deals with one of the judges who they expect will be a member of the panel.

“They were also once again making all efforts to see the VP in this regard yesterday. The team included a Senator hoping to succeed Engr Sule in 2027, a wealthy northern businessman, an Emir who doubled as the judge’s contact man, been a retired judge, as well as a popular national leader of the APC.

“All these endeavours are being sponsored with the state’s meagre resources. They are mentally comfortable now to the extent of issuing a press release calling on their members to remain calm as there is no cause for alarm”, the source alleged.

NDE at forefront to address country’s unemployment, says Lagos Chamber of Commerce

The Minister of State for Labour and Employment, Barr Nkeiruka Onyejeocha, has called on top managers at the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) to buckle up for the task to combat unemployment in the country to the bare minimum.

The Minister said the Nigerian government has vowed to address the pressing issue of unemployment, particularly among young people, with a renewed emphasis on the National Directorate of Employment (NDE).

This commitment was made by the Minister at the ongoing Lagos International Trade Fair, with this year’s theme: “Connecting Businesses, Creating Value” where she addressed trainees and beneficiaries of NDE.

Onyejeocha in a statement by her Special Adviser on Media, Emameh Gabriel, emphasised the NDE’s crucial role in tackling unemployment through the agency’s efforts in providing skills training and entrepreneurship opportunities for young Nigerians.

She highlighted the government’s plan to launch a roadmap in the coming weeks aimed at removing over 80% of unemployed youth from the streets.

She said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration is deeply concerned about the rising unemployment rate and has given a clear mandate to address this challenge effectively.

The Minister assured Nigerians that the government is committed to working tirelessly to create a more inclusive economy where everyone has the opportunity to succeed.

She said: “I am not exaggerating. I have seen the heart of the president. I have seen the team he has assembled and I have seen their hearts and commitments. I have also seen the attitude of all his appointees. I want Nigerians to give us few time and there will a big turnaround.

She noted that though the country is going through unavoidable hard times, with time its fortune would be turned around for good.

“We do not have any reason to fail. We must work hard to change the narrative. We are coming up with policies and strategies that will remove 80 percent of unemployed people from the street.

Onyejeocha promised that going forward, all trainees of the NDE must be empowered with reasonable starter pack that will take them off the street completely.

She called on managers at NDE to focus on combating unemployment without compromise, adding that “the president, my principal is really concerned about unemployment in the country.

She said: “I am not going to engage in an empowerment programme that after training, you give the beneficiaries N50,000 or N20,000. Because when you do that, you are simply telling them to just eat their lunch and go to bed.

“When you train people, you train them because you want to change their lives for good. You train people because you are passionate and you want them to leave the street and lift them from poverty level. You don’t train people for political purpose.

“We must do what is right, in that way, you are connecting businesses and adding value.

“When I found myself in an environment where you have to oversee the National Directorate of Employment, I and said to myself, God you know why I am here. I know it’s your purpose for me to serve on what I am have passion for- providing jobs and empowering people, a thing I have been doing through my foundation in the last decades”.

The Lagos Chamber of Commerce and Industry (LCCI) echoed the government’s call for increased efforts to combat unemployment and poverty. LCCI President/Chairman of Council, Dr. Michael Olawale-Cole, expressed concern about the high poverty rate in the country, with over 63% of Nigerians living below the poverty line.

He urged the NDE to continue its impactful work in skills development and entrepreneurship training to empower young Nigerians and contribute to economic growth.

“The NDE has demonstrated its effectiveness in addressing unemployment, particularly through its skills acquisition and entrepreneurship training programs. From 2015 to 2022, the NDE’s extended special public works program successfully engaged and incentivized over 760,520 participants. Additionally, the agency has harnessed the gains of agriculture value chains to create additional 74,939 jobs in the last two years”, said Olawale-Cole

On his part, highlighting the achievements recorded by the NDE, the National Director, Mallam Abubakar Nuhu Fikpo, said the they have been able to harnessed the gains of agriculture value chains under various agricultural schemes to create additional 74,939 jobs in the last two years.

He said the trade fair exhibitions remain platforms upon which business owners connect, gain exposure and unhindered access to the business world and enhance the value of their products and services.

On getting there at about 3:25 a.m. that same day, I was moving from one unit to the other banging on the doors and shouting “anyone here” “any doctor or nurse on duty”. There was a pin-drop silence all over the place except for a few people who were fast asleep on the hospital terrace. I suspect they were also stranded Nigerians in need of help.

She was singing just to keep our hope alive. That also helped in fixing my eyes on our maker, especially after being faithful in my marriage for eight years and eight months.” Ojo narrated.
