CODE OF CONDUCT TRIBUNAL GETS NEW MEMBER

The Chief Justice of Nigeria, CJN, Justice Walter Onnoghen, yesterday administered oath of office to Justice Julie Abieyuwa Amabor, as Member of Code of Conduct Tribunal.

Shortly after administering the oath at the Supreme Court Complex Abuja, the Chief Justice of Nigeria remarked that there is an on going effort to bring the CCT under Nigeria Judicial Council (NJC) to enable it function effectively and effeciantly and for the good governance of the country.

According to a statement issued yesterday by the Head of Press and Public relations, Ibraheem Al… Hassan said that the CJN urged the new Member to be above board in her decision and leave by the judicial oath she has taken, he also draw her attention to alway be persuaded superior decision of the appalate Court in taken decision.

The Chief Justice of the Federation worned Judges to avoid any act that will create negative perception on the conduct of Judicial Officers which he said cast doubt on the integrity of the institution. He admonished the new member to be team player in carrying out her work.

Justice Onnoghen however, stated that the fact that the process of appointing the new Member has taken too long does not mean that the NJC is not concerned about the important of the CCT but rather on the sensitivity of the appointment which draw attentions that must be listen and scrutinized.

He urged her to always stand by her conscience no matter whose ox is gore. Meanwhile, Chairman Code of Conduct Tribunal Justice Danladi Y. Umar and Honourable Member of Tribunal, Justice William Agwadza Atedze along side CCT management staff witnessed the occasion.
