Stakeholders and G5 of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP have insisted that Sam Anyanwu remains the party’s substantive national secretary.
Anyanwu’s reinstatement on Monday during a Wike- led G5 and Stakeholders meeting in Abuja.
This was contained In communique released at the end of a stakeholders meeting under the umbrella of “PDP concerned stakeholders” drawn from the 36 states and FCT, that the decision to obey the Supreme court judgment to immediately reinstate Anyanwu to his position as the National Secretary of the party.
One of the G5 members and Governor of Oyo state, Seyi Makinde was physical missing from the meeting but his contemporaries, former Governor of Enugu, Ifeanyi Uguanyi, Dr. Samuel Ortom of Benue, Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia state were present at the meeting.
However, a communiqué which emerged from the meeting was read by Wike late Monday, where the stakeholders agreed that there is need to reinforce internal democracy, equity, and justice within the party.
They lamented the inevitable nosedive of the party to self-destruction, if correctional steps are not taken to correct the selfish and self-centered interests that brought the party to its knees in the lead up to the 2023 election.
The communiqué further named the party’s refusal by a few to adhere to the party constitution, with particular reference to section 36 (1) A& B and (C), sections 47 (3) (5) and 48 (1) (i) and the definitive Court judgment regarding Anyanwu’s seat as one of the lapses that must be corrected.
Stakeholders also agreed that in the spirit of fairness, inclusion, federal character principles and respect for the party’s constitution and make an unequivocal pronouncement of the presidential candidate to the South in 2027 elections after the unbroken years of Northern President under Muhammadu Buhari, must be upheld.
The communiqué reads in part , “In line with the provisions of our party constitution only the national secretary, Senator Sam Anyanwu can issue notices of meeting of the national convention.
“Also notices of National Executive Committee, National caucus and the National working committee, therefore, all notices not issues by Anyanwu are null and void and of no effect.
“We, the stakeholders reiterate our commitment to our great party and urge all members to uphold the rule of law, respect constitutional mandate, resist all machinations aimed at destabilizing the party and support the efforts of the National Reconciliation Committee headed by His Excellency, Senator Bukola Saraki.”
“Therefore, the party must, without further delay, respect the judgement of the supreme court. We, therefore, unequivocally reaffirm Senator Sam Anyanwu as the duly elected and substantive National Secretary of our great party.”
