Atiku Abubakar, the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has promised to fight insecurity and restructure the country to give every region a sense of belonging when elected into office come February 25th, 2023.
The former Vice President said he would create jobs for the youths, end constant strikes embarked by the academic staff union of Nigeria universities.
Atiku, who gave the promise during the presidential campaign rally at the Ox-bow Lake Pavilion, Yenagoa, was attended by party stalwarts from many parts of the country, including former governors, former Senate presidents, and the National Chairman of the party, Iyorchia Ayu.
He berated the All Progressives Congress (APC) led administration at the centre for insecurity, poor economy challenges in the country and promised to give them adequate attention.
The former Vice President, who described his campaign in Bayelsa State as “homecoming” reminds the people that from the beginning of democracy Bayelsa State has been a bastion for PDP, and there was no need to leave the party for an opposition party because the state is one with the party.
“we promised that we would never see any more ASUU strike, we would devote a lot of resources to education to make sure that our young men and women are educated and they continue to go to school without any interruption.
“we propose to restructure this country, you people in the Niger Delta need more restructuring than any other part of this country, we would give you more resources and power to deal with your problems, you don’t need to always beg the federal government for everything, when you are actually producing the resources of the country, we will devolve more power and resources to you in the Niger Delta.
In his remarks, National Chairman of the PDP, Dr. Iyiorchia Ayu expressed delight that the state has remained loyal to the PDP since inception.
He said, “I am happy to say that all presidential candidates Bayelsa has always voted for PDP. You promised to vote for PDP and PDP promised to look after your welfare.
“Do not abandon this party, this is the party of the people and with the people we shall standby. It is because of that a few made a mistake of voting for the other party, let me tell you if you vote for them they will always disappoint you. “
Director General of the PDP Campaign and Govenror of Sokoto State, Waziri Tambuwual, said; “The last president produced by PDP was from Bayelsa state. It is time for Bayelsans to appreciate the PDP again by coming out enmass to vote for all the candidates of the PDP in February and March.
“Atiku/Okowa are very familiar with the issues in the South South. Atiku is very familiar with the issue of insecurity in the South-South.
Also, the Vice Presidential candidate, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa, said, “This is the best opportunity we have as a party to reclaim the presidency and I am sure that Bayelsa is ready.
“Go out there and ensure that you deliver a minimum of 700,000 votes and I know that in the South-South geopolitical zone, we are committed to delivering a minimum of 5 million votes and I know that it is doable.
“The division in Nigeria will not continue to go on. We must reunify Nigeria; we must ensure that we restore peace in Nigeria. We must ensure that we grow the economy.“
Bayelsa State Governor, Senator Douye Diri, said that Atiku is the only candidate for 2023 election that thought about what Ijaw people, adding that PDP has been very fair to Bayelsa State since 1999.
The presidential candidate of the party arrived at the venue of the rally and was received by a mammoth crowd.
On his arrival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar and his entourage had earlier visited Bayelsa State First Class Traditional Rulers , the President of Ijaw National Congress.
