By Okechukwu Keshi Ukegbu
The campaign organisation of Eric Opah has denied reports alleging that he was disqualified from the All Progressives Congress governorship primary in Abia State.
In a statement issued on Tuesday, the Director-General of the organisation, Charles Ogbonna, described the reports as false and politically motivated. According to the statement, the APC National Working Committee cleared all three governorship aspirants from Abia State to participate in the primary election.
The campaign organisation also stated that the party’s State Working Committee confirmed during a pre-primary stakeholders’ meeting that all governorship and House of Representatives aspirants successfully passed the screening process, except for one aspirant seeking a State House of Assembly ticket. Ogbonna alleged that the reports were intended to discourage supporters of Opah ahead of the primary election.
He urged APC members and supporters in the state to disregard the claims, insisting that Opah remains in the governorship race. The statement further maintained that the aspirant met the party’s requirements, including registration through the APC e-registration portal.
