A devastating road accident in Saminaka, Lere Local Government Area of Kaduna State, has resulted in the deaths of 25 people. The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) confirmed the fatalities from the crash that occurred on Sunday.
The accident, which took place around 1:00 p.m. at LEA Primary School, involved a J5 bus with registration number NSL 08 AA, carrying 63 passengers, and a DAF trailer with registration number DKA 454 XY. The FRSC, police, and Kaduna State Traffic Laws Enforcement Authority (KASTLEA) arrived at the scene at approximately 1:08 p.m. and began rescue operations.
The J5 bus, which was transporting Maulud celebrants, reportedly lost control and collided with the trailer. Initial reports indicate that 15 people were confirmed dead at the scene. The 48 injured were taken to Comprehensive Hospital Saminaka, with some later transferred to Ahmadu Teaching Hospital Shika, University of Jos Teaching Hospital, and Aminu Kano Teaching Hospital for further treatment.
Tragically, by 6:45 p.m. on Monday, 10 additional deaths were reported due to the severity of the injuries, bringing the total number of fatalities to 25.
FRSC Sector Commander Kabir Nadabo expressed condolences to the victims’ families and reiterated the importance of road safety. He emphasized that many accidents could be prevented and that the FRSC will continue to promote safe driving practices and enforce road safety regulations.
