Quarter finalists emerge in Osun Sports Festival Football Event

By Richard Ayinde, Osogbo.

The last 8 teams to compete in the quarter finals of the ongoing 2021 Osun Sports Festival have emerged as zonal elimination round climaxed on Wednesday, September 29 across four venues in Osun State.

In Ila Orangun where Orolu, Ede North and Boripe lock horns in Group C, two first half goals by Adewale Omogboye and Ganiyu Kabir handed Boripe the deserved victory over Ede North and catapulted then to summit of the table with 4 points, same as Orolu FC who scored lesser goals. Ede North struggled to register a consolation late on to half the deficit but bowed out of the competition without a point.

In Okuku, Ilesha West came from a goal down to dump out Ife South 3-1 in the group B encounter. Gbamila Lekan’s 33rd minute strike for Ife South was cancelled out by Folowo Lekan in the 55th minute before Offor Samuel and Adebiyi Oke sealed the victory in the 67th and 79th minutes. The results means Ilesa West topped the group with 6 points while Irewole LG finished distant second with 3 points. Ife South retired to ‘the source’ empty handed.

Ejigbo FC also picked the apex ticket of group D after a lone goal victory over Oriade. The only goal of the game was scored by Oseni Muideen in the 70th minute for Ejigbo to finish 6 points while Odo Otin picked the second group ticket with 3 points. Oriade bowed out pointless.

In group A, Ife East lost 1-2 to Ifelodun at Ilesha centre but they progressed to the knockout round with a solitary point. Two brilliant goals by Gotie Taofiq and Adebiyi Kamal in each half ensured that Ifelodun finished as table topper with the maximum 6 points while Isokan were relegated to Apomu.

The quarterfinals will take place on Friday, October 1, across the four centres.
