By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The FCT Director/Secretary, FCT Secondary Education Board, SEB, Nanre Emeje has advocated for the inclusion of Trade and Entrepreneurship into the school curriculum.

Emeje made this know today while he was giving a keynote address at the 2nd Edition of the “. Students Trade and Entrepreneurship Exhibition/ Award 2022 at Nicon Luxury Hotel, Abuja.

She said, ” I am propelled and determined that irrespective of auspicious academic times this laudable programme must be included in the schools calendar and sustained as a yearly programme. Our target will always be to use these events to show case the students’ achievements and innovation and seek to market the products from there.”

She explained that the exhibition would equally be used to give credence to the curriculum of creativity over academic learning.
Furthermore Emeji noted that unlike the first edition of the exhibition where only 22 schools participated , the second edition has featured 88 Senior Secondary Schools including the launching of the magazine ” The SEB Entrepreneurship “.
The FCT Permanent Secretary, Olusola Adesola in his keynote address also called for inculcation and development of Trade and Entrepreneurial skills into youths in secondary schools.

Adesola said, ” the inculcation and development of the spirit of trades and craftsmanship, innovation and Entrepreneurship in our youth is at the heart of our Industrialization and by implication our economic development as a nation”, adding that the micro, small and medium enterprises MSME, are products of the activities of the enterprise.

In the light of this the Permanent Secretary disclosed that the FCTA through the Abuja Enterprise Agency has initiated various Entrepreneurial programmes designed to gainfully engage youths in the FCT.

Director General of Micheal Imodu National Institute for Labour Studies, Comrade Isa Aremu noted that entrepreneurship is good, adding that the center is ready to collaborate with SEB to give scholarships and patronage to students as a way of encouraging them.
