Delta Govt trains 135 verified trainers for STEP 2022 cycle

The Delta State Job and Wealth Creation Bureau has selected 135 verified trainers in preparation for the smooth take off of the Delta State Government’s Skills Training and Entrepreneurship Programme (STEP) 2022 cycle.

Addressing STEP Trainers in Asaba during the Inception Workshop for year 2022 organized by the State Job and Wealth Creation Bureau, the Chief Job and Wealth Creation Officer, Professor Eric Eboh urged the Trainers to allow and guide the Trainees on the proper use of their equipment and facilities for learning and practice.

Eboh disclosed that the State Government has in the past seven years trained and established 6,075 youths through STEP and the Youth Agricultural Entrepreneurs Programme (YAGEP.)

He commended the State Governor, Dr. Ifeanyi Okowa for the political support given to the programme to ensure that it is sustained from inception till date, stressing that the 2022 STEP cycle is the seventh cycle in the series

Prof Eboh listed this year’s STEP programme which covered six categories of Skills/Enterprises to include Catering & Confectionery (4 months), Tiling & Interlocking (4 months), and Hairdressing & Braiding (4 months).

Others are Audio-Visual Services (4 months), Electrical & Solar Works(5 months) and POP-Screedmaking-Painting for 4 months.

He emphasized that the Trainers must provide adequately-qualified and well-motivated instructors that would conduct the training exercises successfully.

According to Eboh, you must follow the Training Manual and add whatever you think is helpful to the trainees.

” You should inspect and sign the Trainees Daily Activity Record such as logbook daily.

“Adopt a ‘Mentor’ mentality in your training approach by seeing the trainees as potential partner, not as a future rival.

” Report any irregular or troublesome trainee to the Job Creation Office “, Prof Eboh advised.

The Chief Job Creation boss said that the purpose of the training workshop was to familiarize selected STEP Trainers with the rules, regulations and code of conduct for the training of STEP beneficiaries.

He added that it would perfect the documentation of selected STEP Trainers before the onset of the training exercise.

Eboh averred that it would enable his office obtain the commitment of selected STEP Trainers in the training activity.

On his part, the Executive Assistant & Head of Directorate For Youth Monitoring & Mentoring, Mr. Edward Mekwunye advised the Trainers to put in their efforts to make the programme work out.

Mekwunye urged them to realize the intents of Governor Okowa in establishing the programme and imbibe good character, behavioural pattern and right attitude.

The programme which would commence on September 1, 2022 will end on 31st December, 2022 for the four months while that of five months programme will end on January 31, 2023.
