Ibrahim Usman wins Kaduna PDP central senatorial bye election

The winner of the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) Kaduna Central Senatorial repeated primary election has emerged.

He name is Hon. Ibrahim Usman popularly known as Sardaunan Badarawa, who challenged the earlier primary election of the party in court on alleged irregularities.

Hon. Usman won the repeated senatorial primary election with 210 votes cast as against his opponent Lawal Adamu Usman, popularly known as Mr. Laah who scored only 5 votes.

Announcing the results on Monday, the Chairman of the committee on senatorial repeated primary election, Rt. Hon. Istifanus N. Alex declared Ibrahim Usman winner for scoring the highest number of valid vote cast.

Earlier, he said a total of Six people contested for the Kaduna PDP central senatorial elections from the seven local government areas of the central zone.

Earlier, he explained that “We’ve seven LGs in Kaduna central senatorial distinct with the total number of 250 delegates for the election.

“Out of the 250 delegates, 223 were physically accredited by the committee for the election during accreditation exercise.

“We recorded 221 votes out of 223 accredited voters at the end of the voting exercise”, he said.

According the committee chairman, four invalid votes were also recorded, either by no vote cast nor double thumb printing.

Other contestant of the Kaduna central senatorial primary election, according to the committee, include Prof. Usman Muhammed who scored 2 votes.

“Hon. Ibrahim Usman who score 210 votes is hereby declared winner of Kaduna central senatorial primary election, having scored the highest number of valid vote cast, and therefore returned as the candidate of the PDP in Kaduna central senatorial zone for 2023 general election”, he said.

Recalled that the bye election is in compliance with Federal high last week judgement that nullified the earlier primary election, and given PDP 14 days to conduct a fresh bye election.

Hon. Ibrahim Usman had challenged the emergence of the Mr Laah, his opponent at the federal high court in kaduna over irregularities of primary election earlier conducted by PDP where judgment was passed nullified the election , and given the party 14 days to conduct fresh bye election.

Although a PDP official, in an interview, said some candidates nether sent agent nor written any letter to the party of their withdrawal from the contest on or before the by election, inline with the party rules and or constitution.
