Nigerian embassy in Washington excoriates 78 natives arraigned by FBI

By Jennifer Y Omiloli

The Nigerian embassy in Washington DC on Monday denounced the criminal demonstration by 78 Nigerians arraigned by the Federal of Bureau of Investigation for supposed extortion in the U.S.

In an announcement on Monday, the embassy said the Federal Government denounces such criminal acts in all repercussions.

Mr Mohammed Suleiman, the Senior Counselor/Head of Chancery, signed the statement in the interest of the Ambassador, retired Justice Sylvanus Nsofor.

Taking note of that Nigerians are for the most part well behaved and dedicated individuals, the government office educated against stereotyping on the premise concerning couple of rotten ones.

It said: “The Embassy wishes to reaffirm that Nigerians are generally law-abiding and hardworking people wherever they are, including in the U.S.

“We wish to reiterate her willingness to cooperate with the government of the U.S. in accordance with the laid-down universal human rights and due legal processes in the interest of our national.

“The Embassy, therefore, appeals to her citizens in the U.S. to remain calm and continue to observe the laws of the host country at all times.”

The 77 suspects were named by Mr Nick Hanna, the U.S. Attorney for Central District of California, at a news meeting on August 22.

Hanna said the extortion cases included suspects scheming with government and state operators to hoodwink clueless victims of their cash.

The declaration followed the capture of 14 suspects by law enforcement agencies driven by the FBI over the U.S.
