On-street parking scheme comeback to ease traffic congestion in Abuja – FCTA

By Joyce Remi-Babayeju

The Federal Capital Territory Administration on Monday explained that it was reintroducing it’s suspended On-street parking scheme to ease the disturbing traffic congestion in Abuja.

The Director, Traffic Management, FCTA Transportation,  Wadata Bodinga, disclosed this as he assured that all the legal issues that was an impediment have been resolved.

He noted that the new FCT parking Regulations 2019 has sufficiently made provisions for the scheme.

Bodinga explained that following the rapid population growth in Abuja, and its attendant traffic congestion,  reintroducing the policy was necessary.

He explained that the nation’s capital was faced with many  traffic irregularities,  posing grave dangers to residents,  noting that the reintroduction of the scheme will mitigate.

He said, ” the present state of the FCT Traffic irregularities which pose a great hazard towards road users, the reintroduction of the On-street parking scheme by the administration will mitigate these challenges to the barest minimum.”

While On-street parking scheme may seem over bearing for some users, the scheme impact positively on the FCT residence on economic activities through improving customer experience and promoting efficient parking management system “, Bodinga noted.
