The monster called kidnapping be curtail by community policing says Lawmaker

By Joseph ETTA

The monster called kidnapping can be curtailed with the introduction of community policing known as “Vigilante group” in each community.

This suggestion was made by Honourable Eta Mbora, member representing Odukpani and Calabar in Cross River State in a chat with Day Break in Calabar.

He observed that if the “Vigilante group” is well funded by the public spirited individual, it could stand as a strong force to wage war against the menace of this “monster” called kidnapping.

He believed that community involvement will go a long way to help reduce the high menace of kidnapping and insecurity which is most prevalence in his constituency and the entire Nigeria at Large.

The law maker is of the opinion that if the peace-loving individuals in such community would rise up and take the responsibility of proper funding the “vigilante group”, the menace of kidnapping will be reduced to the barest minimum in the state as well as the entire country.

He disagreed strongly to the opinion that kidnapping is borne out of political thuggery but pointed out that the youths are simply lazy and are not prepared to work, “they are only looking for quick money”.

Hon. Eta Mbora reinteracted that more involvement of the community and its leaders being strong and fearless to face this evil act because the perpetrator of this evil act live in the community, they come from a family and the leaders know them the better; He added.

The Law maker calls for youth to take to craftsmanship that this well curtail unemployment.

He advised the youths to learn trade, go into apprenticeship to learn trade.

He berated youths especially those in his constituency of being reluctant to learn skill work taking to craftsmanship that will help them become entrepreneurs, the trouble among our youths is that they are lazy.

This will help reduce the level of unemployment and prepare them for a better tomorrow, He added.
