Governor of Plateau State affirms legality of leadership changes in Local Governments

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has emphasized the legality of the recent leadership changes he implemented in the 17 Local Government Areas of the state. He stated that the decision stands firm and will not be reversed.

The Governor’s response came after all 17 Local Government Secretariats in the state were sealed by the state Commissioner of Police, following orders from the Inspector General of Police, Usman Baba.

In an official statement issued by the Governor’s Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, it was conveyed that Governor Mutfwang urged the peaceful citizens of Plateau State to remain calm regarding the lawful changes in the Local Government system. He appealed to them to resist any provocation and assured them that the government is taking necessary steps to establish a solid foundation for extensive development at the grassroots level.

The Governor also stressed the importance of maintaining peace and security in the state, urging citizens not to engage in any unlawful activities. He reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to prioritizing the safety of lives and property, emphasizing that a united and secure Plateau requires collective efforts.

Last week, Governor Mutfwang suspended all chairmen and councillors in the local government areas to facilitate investigations into allegations of financial impropriety leveled against them by the state legislature. Interim management committees were subsequently appointed by the Governor to oversee the affairs of the council areas. However, the former council officials, who were members of the All Progressives Congress, rejected their suspension and vowed to remain in office.
