Boxing community pays tribute to late Okorodudu as hospital releases his body

The boxing community is mourning the loss of Nigerian coach Jeremiah ‘Jerry’ Okorodudu, who passed away at the age of 64. Okorodudu, who represented Nigeria at the 1984 Olympic Games, was a respected figure in Nigerian boxing. However, his family faced difficulties in securing the release of his corpse from the hospital due to an unpaid balance. The situation was resolved when the Family United By Sports (FUBS) WhatsApp group raised the necessary funds within minutes to cover the outstanding bill.

Godwin Enakhena, the coordinator of FUBS, expressed their swift response to the news of Okorodudu’s passing, stating that they paid N600,000 directly into the hospital’s account to facilitate the release of the corpse to his wife. Tributes have poured in for the late boxing icon, highlighting his contributions as both a boxer and a coach. The Nigeria Boxing Federation (NBF) and other boxing associations expressed their condolences and promised to support Okorodudu’s family in organizing a fitting burial for him.

Okorodudu’s passing is seen as a great loss to the Nigerian boxing community, and efforts are being made to honor his legacy and provide assistance to his family during this difficult time. The President of the Nigeria Boxing Board of Control and other boxing officials expressed their deep regret and willingness to support the family in any way necessary. The community remembers Okorodudu as a talented and dedicated professional boxer who brought pride to his country.
