FIFA Confirms Payment to Falcons via NFF — Aisha Falode”

Aisha Falode, Chairperson of the Nigerian Women’s Football League, has clarified the payment process for the 2023 Women’s World Cup prize money. Despite previous reports suggesting FIFA would directly pay the players’ allowances, Falode explained that the prize money will still be channeled through the country’s football federation.

Following the Super Falcons’ qualification to the second round of the tournament, FIFA secretary-general, Fatma Samoura, had indicated that unpaid allowances would be sent directly to the players. However, Falode emphasized that the funds would be “ring-fenced” to ensure a direct and smooth transfer to the players, without any third-party interference.

According to FIFA’s announcement, players participating in the World Cup group stage will earn $30,000, and this amount will double to $60,000 in the second round of the competition. As a result, each member of the Nigerian team is expected to earn at least $60,000 for reaching the round of 16 in Australia and New Zealand. The clarification ensures that the Falcons’ prize money will still be routed through the NFF for proper distribution to the deserving players.
