Bayelsa Youths Dismiss Former Lawmaker’s Projections on Upcoming Elections

A group of Bayelsa youths, organized as the New Generation Leaders, have refuted the claims and predictions put forth by former House of Representatives member, Hon Israel Sunny-Goli, regarding the upcoming governorship elections scheduled for November 11.

Sunny-Goli, a prominent figure within the All Progressives Congress (APC) in the state and a former federal House of Representatives representative for the Nembe/Brass constituency, voiced his opinions during a press conference in Yenagoa. He asserted that the APC’s governorship candidate, Chief Timipre Sylva, lacks the necessary infrastructure to effectively challenge Senator Douye Diri of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).

Responding to these assertions, Apostle Bodmas Kemepadei, the Director General of New Generation Leaders, issued a statement in Yenagoa. In it, he criticized Sunny-Goli’s claims, stating that the former lawmaker, who failed in his attempt to regain his national assembly seat, is disconnected from the current political landscape. Kemepadei labeled Sunny-Goli’s statements as “misleading and a distortion of facts,” attributing them to falsehood and ill will.

Kemepadei expressed regret that Sunny-Goli’s claims were based on fabricated information and highlighted his absence from state affairs as well as his lack of accessibility to the constituents he once represented. He conveyed, “As the New Generation Leaders of Bayelsa State, we are not surprised by the inaccurate projection presented by Hon Israel Sunny-Goli. He has spent nearly nine years residing in the Federal Capital Territory, thus losing touch with the majority of Bayelsans who are grappling with poverty despite the state’s abundance of resources.”

He further emphasized that the majority of Bayelsa’s youth do not align with Sunny-Goli’s stance, firmly supporting Chief Timipre Sylva’s candidacy. Kemepadei also addressed the alleged efforts of the Prosperity PDP administration to influence APC figures with attractive contracts and political appointments, stating that these attempts will not sway their commitment to a better Bayelsa under the leadership of Chief Timipre Sylva and Great Joshua Maciver.

“To further affirm our unwavering support, we have chosen to organize a solidarity walk involving a thousand individuals, aimed at demonstrating our determination for a brighter future for Bayelsa,” Kemepadei concluded.
