Nigeria Women’s League Develops Platform to Drive Football Growth Amongst Women in Nigeria

The Nigeria Women’s Football League (NWFL), has developed a strategic platform to drive growth for the 2023/24 season and beyond.

Chairperson of the NWFL, Nkechi Obi at a media briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, shared the Strategic Direction and Action Plan known as “Women’s Football Rising©”

“The Women’s Football Rising© is a platform to drive our growth strategy for 2023 and beyond…The platform will drive empowerment of women football players in Nigeria through the gradual but sustained commercialization of club football and delivery of strategic objectives based on a sustainable and scalable execution plan.” Obi said.

In order to achieve these objectives, Ms.Obi said the platform(Women’s Football Rising©) has already been presented at the Women’s World Cup Watch Party on August 20,2023 during the first event of the current leadership of the NWFL.This the board did in partnership with La Liga Global Network for Nigeria and Ghana.

According to her, the key elements of the Women’s Football Rising© strategy will see; developed and growth, showcase the league, communicate and commercialize the league, govern and lead and finally, educate and empowerment through the game.

In terms of capacity development, Ms.Obi said,”Our Class to Pitch© initiative will see us undertake programmes to promote the development of women coaches and referees while also providing personal development training for our players, training for the media ,clubs’ media officers, and capacity development in governance, administration and management for our clubs executives.”Ms.Obi noted.

The Chairperson of the NWFL also paid glowing tributes to the impact created through exports of home grown players to the global stage.
“15 members of the 23-members Super Falcons squad are products of the NWFL…Our players continue to ignite a spark of inspiration that has reverberated through every corner of our nation.”The NWFL Chairperson stated.

The first step to kick start the implantation drive will be at the Annual General Assembly of the NWFL slated for October 5th,2023.
