Police nab NIN scammers in Rivers

The Rivers State Police Command has apprehended three individuals suspected of engaging in National Identity Number (NIN) fraud in Port Harcourt. The suspects were captured by a police team at the entrance of the National Identity Management Commission (NIMC) along Aba Road in the state capital.

These operatives, numbering about four, arrived at the location in a blue private sedan, disembarked from their vehicle, and apprehended the self-proclaimed agents operating by the roadside. The raid followed complaints regarding the suspects, who were posing as agents of the federal agency while concealing their true intentions.

Some of the roadside agents, who were present at the NIMC entrance, claimed that they were selling NIN registration forms due to a lack of employment opportunities. It was reported that those arrested were requesting permission from the police to continue their operations.

An anonymous source from the Port Harcourt NIMC office revealed that these men frequently visited the office, posing as agents. They would deceive unsuspecting visitors and sometimes extort money from them, claiming to be genuine NIMC staff.

Efforts to contact the spokesperson of the state police command, Grace Iringe-Koko, were unsuccessful, as her phone was not reachable, and she had not responded to a text message as of the time of this report.
