‘Mami Water,’ ‘Anikulapo,’ and more top AMAA 2023 nominations

The Africa Film Academy, organizers of the Africa Movie Academy Awards, revealed the nominees for the 19th edition on September 21, 2023. Nigerian films ‘Mami Water’ and ‘Anikulapo’ featured prominently. Raymond Anyiam-Osigwe and Steve Ayorinde announced the event details. The awards, themed ‘The Renaissance,’ will be held on October 29, 2023, at The Balmoral event center in Lagos. ‘Mami Water’ received nominations in various categories, including costume design, makeup, visual effects, sound, cinematography, editing, screenplay, and Best Nigerian Film. ‘Anikulapo’ was nominated for Best Film in an African Language, production design, costume design, makeup, and Best Nigerian Film. Other nominated Nigerian films include ‘Four Four Forty-Four,’ ‘Brotherhood,’ and ‘The Trade.’ Notable actors nominated include Richard Mofe Damijo, Marc Zinga, Fenando Kamugisha, Tobi Bakre, Justine Murichii, Mike Danon, Lucie Debay, Ehle Mbali Mlotshwa, Nafissatou Cissé, Adesua Etomi, Nse Ikpe Etim, Bimbo Ademoye, and Ama Qamata. In the supporting roles category, nominees include Francis Onwochei, Jeff Jackson, Hakeem Kae-Kazim, Jimmy-Jean Louis, Uzoamaka Aniunoh, Rokhaya Niang, and Clarck Natmbwe.
