NWTF urge Bayelsa voters to avoid impersonation

From Felicia Nnachi, Yenagoa

The Nigerian Women Trust Fund, NWTF, has urged gender based associations and women leaders to train underrepresented groups on the need to avoid impersonation or used of another person’s voter card.

Bar. Malliya Manu disclosed this recently at the training of trainers (TOT) on Continuous Voter Education, three-day workshop at Doncont Home and Apartment, in Yenagoa, Bayelsa state capital.

Manu who noted that, any person who presents the permanent voters card, PVC of another person with the intention of using it to vote will not be allowed to vote, because it is called impersonation, said the training was made possible with funding from the European Union Support to Democratic Governance in Nigeria (EU-SDGN)

She averred that, no voter is allowed within the vicinity of a polling unit or collation center on the day of an election, to exhibit the following actions.

“Convening, holding, or attending public meetings during the hours of the poll or operating megaphones, amplifiers, or public address apparatus, except for officially appointed announcements around the voting unit.

” Wearing or carrying any badge, poster, banner, flag, or symbol related to a political party or the election around the unit is highly prohibited.

“If anyone violates any of these provisions, they commit an offence and may face a fine of N100,000 or imprisonment for up to six months for each offence.

“Additionally, anyone who snatches or destroys any election material or device may be imprisoned for up to 24 months upon conviction, ” she noted.”

She therefore, urged the trainers to master the training manual in advance to ensure smooth management and minimize the risk of unexpected issues, noting that proper voter education breeds value for electoral process among unrepresented.
