Major Lagos Bridge to Close for Urgent Repairs: Commuters Advised to Seek Alternatives

By Daniel Edu

The Federal Government has announced the temporary closure of the Third Mainland Bridge in Lagos, starting from midnight on Saturday, October 21, to midnight on Sunday, October 22. The closure is necessary for critical repairs, according to Mrs. Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State.

In a statement, Kesha informed the public that comprehensive rehabilitation work on the bridge would commence soon, beginning with the repair of essential sections. To mitigate the current challenges faced by commuters, the government plans to carry out palliative repairs on the most severely affected portions along the Adeniji bound carriageway on Sunday, October 22, as a prelude to the comprehensive repair work.

During this period, the Adeniji bound lane of the bridge will be closed to traffic. Motorists are urged to cooperate with traffic management officials, follow diversions as directed, and consider using alternative routes where possible. The closure aims to ensure the safety of commuters and facilitate the much-needed repairs on this vital transportation artery in Lagos.
