Akeredolu Heads Back to Germany; Aiyedatiwa Assumes Acting Governor Role

Urgent:

In a sudden development, Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu, is set to embark on another medical vacation in Germany, just four months after his return to the country, during which he stayed at his private residence in Ibadan, Oyo State.

A statement released by his Chief Press Secretary, Richard Olatunde, on Tuesday, revealed that Governor Akeredolu would be returning to Germany for a follow-up on his medical treatment. The governor is scheduled to depart on Wednesday, and in accordance with the established protocol, he has communicated his absence to the state House of Assembly.

During Akeredolu’s medical leave, Deputy Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa will assume the role of acting governor. The statement emphasized that the governor prioritizes his health and aims for a full recovery before resuming official duties.

The official communication stated, “Governor Akeredolu expresses his gratitude for the unwavering support and affection of the people of Ondo State. He assures them that his administration remains committed to the path of progress and prosperity for the people.”

Highlighting Akeredolu’s consistent practice, the statement mentioned, “As a Senior Advocate of Nigeria and a widely respected Nigerian, Governor Akeredolu has consistently delegated power to his deputy during his annual vacations. This practice was observed on April 1, 2021, April 1, 2022, April 3, 2023, and July 10, 2023, when he embarked on previous vacations.”
