Tinubu Emphasizes Progressive Democracy with Focus on Education and Jobs

President Bola Tinubu has declared his commitment to a form of democracy aimed at eradicating poverty and providing quality education for Nigerian children. Speaking during a meeting with the National Working Committee of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Lagos, Tinubu stressed the need for a collaborative effort between the federal, state, and local governments to achieve these goals.

Tinubu expressed support for the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies, emphasizing the importance of democracy that is both progressive and inclusive. He highlighted the need to address poverty by creating job opportunities for youths and ensuring quality education for all Nigerian children.

The President called for collaboration among various government arms and commended the APC leadership for promoting essential democratic ideals. He urged the party to focus on attracting more youths and women through its e-registration and digital membership validation exercise.

Tinubu, who thanked party members for their support during campaigns and the subsequent electoral victory, expressed concern about the high number of out-of-school children in the country. He proposed addressing this issue by establishing more schools, hiring teachers, and providing at least one meal a day for school children.

The National Chairman of the APC, Dr. Abdullahi Ganduje, assured Tinubu that the NWC had devised strategies for success in upcoming by-elections in February 2024. Ganduje also disclosed plans for the establishment of the National Institute of Progressive Studies, aiming to enlighten members and the public on democratic principles, internal democracy, and adherence to election-related laws.

Speaking to journalists after the meeting, Ganduje emphasized the institute’s role in formulating policies that strengthen Nigeria’s democracy, fostering enlightenment on issues such as hate speech avoidance and compliance with election regulations.
