Governor Mutfwang Clarifies Purpose of Visit to Tinubu

By Daniel Edu

Plateau State Governor, Caleb Mutfwang, has provided clarification regarding his recent visit to President Bola Tinubu, emphasizing that the primary motive was to address the escalating security challenges in the state and seek swift intervention.

In a statement released by his Director of Press and Public Affairs, Gyang Bere, the governor aimed to dispel misconceptions circulating on social media about the purpose of his visit.

Bere stated, “Prior to the Lagos visit, Governor Mutfwang had granted an interview on Channels and Arise Television, declaring his intention of going to meet with the President to solicit support over the renewed security challenges in the state.”

The governor had previously visited Mangu Local Government Area, which had experienced severe attacks. Subsequently, he held meetings with the General Officer Commanding 3rd Division and Commander of Operation Safe Haven OPSH, issuing directives to secure affected communities.

Expressing dissatisfaction with criticisms on social media, Bere highlighted the governor’s proactive response to the Christmas Eve attacks, engaging personally with affected communities and collaborating with security agencies.

“The decision to meet with Mr. President was aimed at briefing him on the renewed violence for appropriate action,” he explained.

Bere revealed that discussions with President Tinubu and other governors led to positive outcomes, with Vice President Kashim Shettima, National Security Adviser Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, and security chiefs dispatched to Plateau to assess the situation. Following the briefing, President Tinubu ordered security personnel to apprehend the perpetrators and mobilize relief resources for surviving victims.
