Police Rescue Kidnapping Victim, Neutralize Two Suspects in Delta Operation

In a successful intelligence-driven operation led by CSP Aliyu Shaba, the DPO of Ekpan Division, Delta State Police Command rescued a kidnapped victim in Ekpan, Delta State, and engaged in a fierce gun duel with suspected kidnappers. The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Bright Edafe, shared details of the operation during a press briefing in Asaba on Tuesday.

The operation, directed by Commissioner of Police CP Wale Abass, resulted in the recovery of the victim’s vehicle and three firearms, including two single-barrel and one double-barrel guns, along with two expended cartridges. The incident began on December 30, 2023, when armed men attacked a 23-year-old male who had parked his Black-colored GLK 350 Benz SUV along Jakpa Road, leaving his brother inside the vehicle.

Upon receiving information about the attack, the Commissioner of Police directed the DPO Ekpan to mobilize operatives for the rescue operation. The police team, conducting surveillance in a bush at Ekakpamre, Ughelli-South LGA, engaged in a gun battle with the kidnappers. Two suspects were fatally injured, while one managed to escape with gunshot injuries. The kidnapped victim was safely rescued without harm.

Recovered items included two single-barrel and one double-barrel gun, along with two expended cartridges. The deceased suspects were taken to the hospital, where they were certified dead. Efforts are underway to apprehend the suspect who escaped with injuries.

Police Commissioner CP Wale Abass commended the officers and men of the Command for their dedication in ensuring a successful security year in 2023. He urged them to enhance their strategies in the fight against crime and criminality in 2024.
