Gunmen Assassinate Prominent Ogun Chief in Late-Night Attack

In a tragic incident, unidentified gunmen believed to be cultists have brutally killed Adeyinka Folarin, renowned as the Baasegun of Itunsokun community in Ogun State. The assailants executed the attack around 8 pm on Monday night at Folarin’s residence in Sagamu.

The shocking assassination was confirmed by two undisclosed traditional rulers, both emphasizing the significance of Folarin within the Akarigbo in-council. Commonly referred to as Baasegun, the slain chief’s stature and prominence added to the gravity of the incident.

While details remain limited, the atmosphere in Sagamu has grown tense following the killing. A staff member from Sagamu Local Government disclosed that the local government workers hastened to close operations for the day, anticipating potential violence stemming from the assassination.

The source expressed the prevailing uncertainty surrounding the motive behind Folarin’s murder, with speculations pointing to involvement with cultists. However, these details remain unverified, contributing to the heightened tension in the town.

Upon reaching out to the Ogun State Police Command for comment, the spokesperson, SP Omolola, stated an intention to check and respond. However, as of the latest report filing, there has been no response from the police spokesperson. The community awaits further investigations and official statements to shed light on the circumstances surrounding this tragic event.
