I was hospitalised after my N500m movie leaked online – Toyin Abraham

Renowned Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham revealed that panic attacks landed her in the hospital after her high-budget movie, “Malaika,” worth close to N500 million, was illegally leaked online. The film, initially released exclusively in cinemas on December 15, 2023, faced unauthorized circulation on social media platforms.

Speaking at the Federal Investigation Department of the Nigeria Police Force, where suspects related to the movie’s illegal distribution were paraded, Abraham expressed shock and devastation upon discovering the leak. She described the experience as if her entire world was crumbling.

The actress, emotionally recounting the incident, mentioned the efforts made to combat piracy, involving calls to tech experts, Google, and Telegram. She emphasized the impact on her life, the creative industry, and her commitment to fighting piracy.

Abraham disclosed the financial losses incurred due to fans waiting for the movie to be available online for free. Despite the setbacks, she remains determined to champion the cause for the entertainment and creative industry, stating, “It is not about the money now. It is about fighting a particular cause.”
