Reign of terror in A’Ibom as hoodlums behead police officer

The killing of a police personnel, Inspector Osang in Uyo, the Akwa Ibom State capital yesterday has generated palpable fears among residents.

Although, facts surrounding his death is misty, a source who spoke to newsmen under anonymity said, the incident occured at about 8:30 pm.

The source said the assailants, numbering over 10 stormed the residence of their victim located around Enen Afaha and Afaha Ube, a suburb within Uyo metropolis, shooting while residents and passersby scampered for safety.

The State Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Odiko Mac-Don confirmed the incident saying, the Command has received the news of the murder of the police personnel describing it as very unfortunate.

According to him, “we have received that information and it is an unfortunate situation.Already, an investigation is ongoing and we are committed to ridding the streets of criminal elements.

“Again, we are not dettered and we are committed to ensuring that, criminal minded persons will account for their actions.”

When reporters visited the area Thursday morning, people were seen in clusters discussing the unfortunate incident.

The tragedy is the fourth of such incidences in January in Uyo after a young lady, was also murdered penultimate Sunday night and the dismembered body tucked in a Ghana-Must-Go bag was dumped by the roadside at Nwaniba area of Uyo.

Similarly, a woman was reportedly killed at the Banking District and a male at Ikot Oku Ikono junction in the Uyo metropolitan in the past two weeks.

Meanwhile, Akwa Ibom Governor, Umo Eno has warned that no criminal should test the resolve of his administration on security matters.

Eno, made this known at a gala-night for service commanders who have been transferred from the state, and the newly promoted Military Generals from Akwa Ibom state.

The Governor stated that, “if criminals believe that Akwa Ibom State is a place for them to hibernate, I am warning them to stay away. We have credible intelligence that there are those ones living among us…we will come after you and we will use every layer of our intelligence available to track you.”
