Amid rising insecurity, the Zamfara State House of Assembly has removed Speaker Bilyaminu Moriki from his position, appointing Bashar Gummi as the interim speaker.
The decision came after a motion by Nasiru Abdullahi, representing Maru Constituency, supported by 18 out of the 24 members during an emergency session.
Citing the state’s security challenges, the members unanimously agreed to impeach Moriki, urging the new speaker to prioritize efforts to combat banditry, which has severely affected socio-economic activities.
Shamsudeen Basko, representing Talata Mafara Constituency, emphasized the urgency of addressing insecurity, stating, “Our people are being killed and abducted daily. We must take action to defend them and call on the government to protect our citizens.”
