Plateau Women Urge Government Action on Hunger and Insecurity

The Voice of Women in Nigeria Leadership Initiative, representing a cross-section of Plateau women, has called on the federal and state governments to urgently address the prevailing security challenges, hunger, and economic difficulties plaguing the nation.

During a peaceful protest organized in Jos on Saturday, Mrs. Lois Gotom, the coordinator of the group in the state, emphasized the severe impact of the current economic downturn and insecurity, particularly on women and children.

Expressing deep concerns over the dire situation, Gotom highlighted the loss of lives and property resulting from the challenges. She urged President Bola Tinubu to leverage his ‘Renewed Hope Agenda’ to provide assistance to the people.

Gotom emphasized the urgent need for government intervention to stabilize prices of essential commodities and curb the rampant rise in living costs, which has exacerbated hunger and insecurity across the country.

Stressing Nigeria’s abundant natural and human resources, Gotom called on leaders at all levels to harness these assets for the betterment of citizens’ lives.

She lamented the alarming increase in prices of goods and services, transportation fares, as well as the surge in criminal activities such as kidnapping and armed robbery, which have claimed innocent lives.

Referring to President Tinubu’s campaign promises, Gotom underscored the need for concrete actions to improve security and utilize funds from subsidy removal to enhance the well-being of Nigerians.

The peaceful rally, according to Gotom, serves as a collective voice for millions of ordinary Nigerians seeking government attention and action to address the pressing issues of hunger and insecurity.
