Former Lagos State Governor, Akinwunmi Ambode, has cautioned that without unity among Nigerians, the country’s insecurity challenges will persist.
Speaking at the Akinjide Adeosun Foundation’s 2024 Leadership Colloquium and Award themed “Economic Asphyxiation – The Wisdom of Authentic Leaders,” Ambode stressed the importance of unity in addressing national security concerns.
The colloquium, held at Alliance Francaise in Ikoyi on Monday, provided a platform for Ambode to express his views on the country’s economic and leadership issues.
Ambode dismissed the notion that President Bola Tinubu was solely responsible for Nigeria’s economic challenges, urging Nigerians to refrain from scapegoating and instead focus on patriotic efforts to address national issues.
Highlighting the need for collective responsibility, Ambode stated, “Until we decide ourselves to say that we should unite for the common cause called Nigeria, the security issues will not go.”
He emphasized the importance of adopting a different perspective towards supporting the President and addressing national challenges, urging Nigerians to refrain from negative discourse about the country.
According to Ambode, Nigeria’s problems have deep-rooted historical origins and require a courageous leader to resolve. He stressed the need for proactive measures rather than indulging in blame games.
Asserting the importance of authentic leadership, Ambode emphasized the need for emotional intelligence and empathy towards the challenges faced by the populace.
He called for a shift away from propaganda and urged leaders to acknowledge and address the realities confronting the nation.
In conclusion, Ambode emphasized the imperative for Nigerian leaders to think innovatively and stand in solidarity with the people in confronting national issues.
