2024 is significant in the Communist Party political calendar as it marks the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China.
This year therefore offer unique opportunities for the communist party to open its window to the world in its critical journey of achieving the goals set in the 14th Five-Year Plan and the lessons the rest of the developing world can learn from Chinese model of democracy and development.
The ongoing meeting of China’s national legislative body also known as “two sessions” has therefore gained the attention of the international community as it not only opens the window to China’s whole process democracy but also its economic development and projections.
The meeting of the the legislators help gain insights and understanding of Chinese unique democracy and high quality development as it makes giant strides toward achieving its second millennium goal of building a modern and prosperous socialist state.
To this end developing countries can seize the opportunity of the “two sessions” to understand China’s whole-process people’s democracy and. economic rejuvenation and modernization
The “two sessions,” offers a window to understanding how Chinese democracy works. The elected deputies to the National People’s Congress (NPC) together with members of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) represent the voices of the people in building a national consensus for the national government.
The basis of the debates and consensus building are from suggestions and proposals received from individuals and groups across China. This ensures that it is peoples wishes and demands that are central to decision making process by the national legislative body.
As China marks the 70th anniversary of the NPC and the 75th anniversary of the CPPCC by observing the “two sessions,” it is hoped that the international community stand in solidarity with China and avail itself of this opportunity to gain insights into the workings of China’s whole process democracy.
There is no doubt that China has demonstrated committment to attaining high-quality development as an essential ingredient of Chinese modernization. The Chinese economy irrespective of the slow down occasioned by Covid-19 is on the rebound.
At 5.2 percent GDP growth, China ranks among the top in major economies worldwide. It has been able to demonstrate its enormous resilience and potentials as a global economic powerhouse. If China slows the global economy slows. Chinese economic growth is a blessing to the global community.
It is noteworthy that China is committed to implementing its innovation-driven development strategy and promoting the development of new quality productive forces, which will expectedly bring about new impetus into high-quality development.
It is on this front that the global community looks forward to China’s “two sessions” to lead the way in giving positive signal to global economic growth. Chinese commitment to
innovation-driven model, and accelerating coordinated digital and green transitions, will set examples for the world both developed and developing countries.
