EFCC Denies Offering Leniency to Ex-Accountant General in N109bn Fraud Case

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) refutes claims of promising former Accountant General of the Federation, Ahmed Idris, leniency in exchange for indicting the former Minister of Finance and others. Mahmud Tukur, an EFCC detective, denies such allegations during a trial-within-trial at the Federal Capital Territory High Court. Idris, along with co-defendants, faces charges of stealing and breach of trust amounting to N109.5bn. Tukur asserts that Idris voluntarily provided statements, emphasizing that proper procedures were followed, including legal representation. The court adjourns further proceedings to May 15.
