NGO Pushes For Domestication Of Disability Law In Benue State

A non governmental organization, Inclusive Friends Association (IFA) has expressed its determination to ensure that the Disability Law is domesticated in Benue State.

The Program Director of IFA, Grace Jerry, in her opening remarks at the stakeholder’s consultative forum held in Makurdi to domesticate the Disability Law In Benue State with the theme: Strengthening Equality and Inclusion of Persons with Disabilities, said the association shares the concern of stakeholders on the access of the rights based disability law in most states of the country.

The Program Director who was represented by the Program Manager, Mr Stephen Idoko, maintained that ” IFA as a consistent leader in the disability community shares the concern of stakeholders on the access of the right based disability law in most states of the country.

“IFA has been working with partners to see that the domestication of the Disability Act across Nigeria are passed. Our success story includes contributing to the domestication of the Disability Act and the establishment of the Disability Commission in Abia State.”

Also speaking, the Technical Adviser to the Governor of Benue State on Bureau of International Development and Cooperation, Mr John Akuse, assured that the Bureau under his watch will ensure that base on what the Governor wants done in Benue State especially with international partners, is done in line with international standard.

Akuse stressed that the Bureau is working with Ministries, Departments and Agencies that have a link with international partners towards faster development.

The Special Assistant to the Governor of Benue State and Chairman, Persons with Disabilities, Hon Bem Anshe, pointed out that the stakeholders forum organized by the Inclusive Friends Association, will in no small measure add value to the collective efforts to ensure the domestication of the Disability Act.
