Remember That We Are Going To Account For Our Leadership-Bafarawa To Politicians

By Muhammad Ibrahim,Sokoto

The former governor of Sokoto State Attahiru Dalhatu Bafarawa made the statement when members of the correspondent chapel visited him on a congratulatory visit.

Speaking further, Bafarawa said the current crop of politician in the country are merely playing politics to acquire wealth for themselves, describing the current political office holders across the country as prioritizing money to development of their states or constituencies.

“We cannot compare politics of today to that of 80s”, where politics of 80s was based on performances and consideration of the needs of electorates saying there was great difference between the 1st,2nd republics and that of today where politicians engage in politics just to acquire and accumulate wealth.

According to him, “when I started politics in the 70″s, our aim then was to develop the state and the country not for making money.

“I felt somehow these days when I heard politician spending Billions of naira to become Governors or Senators”

He however called on the current crop of leaders across the country to wake up and put an end to the suffering of the masses in the country.

“We need to remember that there is day of judgement and whatever we do today, each and everyone of us will account for our deeds in this life.

“It is time for all our elected leaders to go back to the drawing board and fulfil their electioneering promises to the people”

He further called on leaders in the Northern region to tackle the menace of underdevelopment facing the region so as to bring the region to same level as it peers in other region.

However, Bafarawa challenged federal and state governments to join hands in the fight against insecurity especially in the northwest where killings of innocent souls become rampant and farming of any kind become a history and in some places rotational.

“The issue of insecurity which caused limited farming especially in the Northern part of the country has become major cause of food insecurity.

“Government especially at the federal level should take the issue of insecurity very serious so as to tackle the menace of food scarcity in the country.

“Most farmers including myself could not access our farms again. I have been operating Bafarawa farms on a 10,000 hectares of land in Birni Gwari area of Kaduna since 1976, but today I cannot access the farm again.

“The scarcity of food is nothing but because of insecurity in the land. Government should do the needful so as to tackle the menace and improve on the availability of food to the populace”
