BREAKING: IGP Suspends Special Promotions, Decorates 27 Senior Officers

Inspector General of Police Olukayode Egbetokun has announced the suspension of special promotions within the police force, citing concerns that such practices are undermining the integrity of the officers’ work.

Expressing frustration at the extent to which some officers lobby for special promotions, IGP Egbetokun stated that henceforth, any officer recommended for special promotion by external authorities will face disciplinary action.

He emphasized that any necessary special promotions will be managed internally by the police leadership. Additionally, the IGP has banned undue solicitation for postings, warning that violators will be dealt with according to the law.

In a related development, IGP Egbetokun decorated 27 senior police officers who were recently promoted. These include one Deputy Inspector-General of Police, 11 Assistant Inspectors-General of Police, and 15 Commissioners of Police.

Among the newly decorated officers are DIG Yahaya Abubakar, a lawyer from Adamawa State and former AIG Zone 14; AIG Mohammad Badeh from Niger State, previously the Commissioner of Police in charge of Safer Highways; and AIG Ahmed Armani from Katsina State, a law enforcement master’s degree holder who has worked at the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

Also promoted is AIG Mohammed Hussain from Jigawa State, who was the Commissioner of Police for Kano State Police Command prior to his elevation.
