By Isaac Kertyo, Makurdi

The principal, government college makurdi, mrs aumbur agena, has applauded benue state governor, rev fr hyacinth alia, over his unwavering commitment towards improving the standard of education in the state.

The educationist who gave this commendation in an exclusive interview with day break in makurdi, lauded the governor over his magnanimous approval of the harmonized retirement age for teachers and education officers from 60 to 65 years of age and 35 to 40 years of service respectively.

According to mrs agena, this policy would rekindle the hope of teachers and education officers in the course of their services to the state, adding that it will go a long way to improving the quality of education in benue state.

In a related development, the principal further appreciated the governor for approving free waec neco registration fees for students in public schools across the state. She noted that the decision of the governor to declare free registration fees for the aforementioned examination bodies, has saved many families.

“I want to use this opportunity to thank his excellency so much for what he has done. He may not know what he has done, but he has saved a lot of families. If not because of what the governor has done, many of them wouldn’t have registered their waec and neco.

“We want to on behalf of the students and parents thank the governor so much for what he has done. We pray that god reward him handsomely in jesus name amen. The free waec, neco registration, there is no parent that will say I have not benefited in one way or the other. Even if it is not all your children at least one,” she stated.

The principal who maintained that government is discouraging examination malpractice, stated that it was one of the reasons students were running to rural areas, stressing that none of them has ran away now that government has registered them.

She identified lack of teachers as the major challenge confronting the school, noting that they are expecting government to send teachers to the college for more effective service delivery.
