AGILE Project Conducts Maiden Bi-Annual Media Roundtable In Sokoto

The maiden bi-annual media roundtable for Adolescent Girl Initiative and Empowerment (AGILE) project effectiveness in the state with the mission to nurture,empower and educate girls has held at Aisha Hall Dankani Guest Palace Hotel in Sokoto.

It had in attendance representatives of media organizations, line ministries and parastatals and other stakeholders as well.

It would be recalled that on the 7th of June 2024, the Sokoto state Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Educarion, Muhammad Tukur Alkali has said Sokoto state government earmarked N150m as counter fund and N50m for the take-off of the programme.

Speaking at the brief ceremony, representative of the Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, the Director Education Resource Center Malam Bashir Ibrahim pointed the importance of media in shaping activities especially those that has relevance to the socio-economic styles of vast population.

In their goodwill messages, the Directors Planning,Research and Statistics of line ministries and parastatals pointed out the importance of media in achieving success especially the struggle to improve girl-child education in nigeria and thanked Sokoto state government for its foresight on the role and importance of gender education in the state.

The State Programme Coordinator, Dr. Mansur Isah Buhari while presenting an overview of the AGILE Project highlighted that the project is targeting 387 schools in Sokoto and about 20 million young girls in Nigeria.

The Doctor also explained that Sokoto state government supported by World Bank would transform and make women education in the state vibrant so much so that more enrollments of women would be involved in policy and decision making bodies.

He further asserted that one of the mistakes organizations, government establishments, NGOs, etc make is neglecting the power of media in their activities.

Dr. Mansur also discussed economic, religious, social and political roles and implications on girl-child education.
